PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Term 1, Week 9
School Led Review
It is with a great deal of excitement that our school is ready to participate in the 4 yearly review prescribed by the department.
This review is utilised as a way to reflect on our progress and forward plan for the coming four years.
A majority of schools participate in a School Review, co-ordinated by our central office review team. Our school has been afforded the honour of co-ordinating and leading our own review as a result of our outstanding results. We have been formally recognised as a High Performing School. Only 10% of all schools in the State are offered this opportunity and we are very proud of our students, staff and community for the hard work we have achieved in the past four years to be included in this group.
In the weeks ahead we will be seeking information, feedback and ideas from you and strongly encourage your input into this process. We want to ensure that the next four years see us continuing to develop a modern school that meets the needs of our modern learners, and maintain our high standards of performance across all aspects of schooling.
Our first request for feedback, is included in the QR code added below. We thank you in advance for your support and valued feedback. We will be in touch regularly with you across the coming weeks.

Strategic Agenda for 2025
21st Century Curriculum
We continue to focus on our ongoing implementation of the Australian Curriculum Version 9 for English and Mathematics. Other learning areas will come on line in the coming years. Our teachers all engage in planning sessions with our Head of Curriculum, Mr Joel Batson, to prepare for the units being covered each term. Our teachers also meet regularly across the term to moderate student progress to refine the plan and implement differentiated approaches to support our children’s learning.
Literacy and Numeracy in Focus
Our team continues to lead the reading focus in our school. All teachers and aides have been trained in our synthetic phonics approach and all classes across the school are consistently implementing reading strategies. This team also leads our intervention approach to assist children requiring additional support. The team continues to assist with the implementation of Literacy Blocks across our classroom and is also investigating the development of schoolwide numeracy approaches.
Positive Culture for Learning
Our team has worked hard, updating our Student Code of Conduct in 2024. It is now implemented as of 2025. Our team has also worked with staff, students and parents to enhance our positive recognition for children. This includes positive postcards and termly year level celebrations for positive behaviour. We are also implementing a focused approach to our shared values at Bli Bli which are CHARACTER, COMMITMENT, CREATIVITY AND COMMUNITY.
Diversity – We All Belong
Our team continues to work with our students, staff and community to ensure we are creating an environment where all members feel safe, supported and recognised within our school. We are continuously working with experts to better understand and implement strategies to recognise and support our students.
Digital Futures
This team works tirelessly to provide technological support for teaching and learning at our school. Not only do we try and provide as many resources as possible, we also continue to look for ways to engage our students and staff with the latest available research and resources. We continue to work with our teachers to ensure technology is being incorporated into our teaching strategies. At our school, technology is linked to learning, not game play or streaming online services.
Safety at our school
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all our community of some noted safety concerns we have:
1. After school
Please note that there should be no children in our grounds outside school hours other than those in the care of our Outside School Hours Care or engaged with providers who offer formal programs utilising school facilities. Students should not be onsite and certainly not utilising school facilities including playgrounds etc. We have a number of families who are choosing to stay on the grounds for up to an hour after the bell which makes if difficult for our staff to focus on meetings and planning. We recommend our families utilise the local park which is situated at the side of our oval if you would like your children to socialise and play beyond the school day.
2. Before school
Children are not supervised prior to 8:20am and as such should not be on the school grounds. We are often dealing with issues prior to this time with children whom are being left unsupervised by their parent. Please note that parents should only supervise their own children, and not have other children join them either before or during our supervision period. We have had complaints from parents about issues prior to supervision and issues arising from their child being in contact with an unauthorised adult.
3. Drop and go
Our changed system for drop off and pick up works so much better than the old system that we had in place. Please note that you are not allowed to park in the bus zones as per the signed times and recently we have had issues with buses not having space to park. We have also seen children getting out of vehicles on the road side of the car. All children are expected to exit via the door closest to the footpath only.
P&C News
Congratulations to those who have been elected to our P&C Executive for 2025. We would also like to acknowledge those who have stepped down from positions this year. Your years of service and support for our school are much appreciated, and we thank you for making a difference in the lives of our children.
We would also like to acknowledge that our P&C are continuing to engage in the process to build a new OSHC building to support the high number of children that they care for both before and after school, and over the vacations. Every day we are getting closer to ground being broken for this massive project.
Thank you for your support for our students, staff and community. Every person adds value to the fabric that makes us such a successful school. Have a happy and safe break and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.

Every Day Counts
School absenteeism can significantly impact your child’s learning and wellbeing.
Research shows that in Queensland, higher student attendance is associated, on average, with higher student achievement. Additionally, attending school every day helps children to build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience.
Under the law, you must make sure your child is enrolled and attends school on all school days unless there is a reasonable excuse. Our school closely monitors the attendance of each and every child. Parents/carers can expect to be contacted by the school with offers of support if a child’s attendance falls into the serious concern category. (less than 80% attendance).

If your child does not want to go to school, please reach out to your classroom teacher who will reach out to support staff at our school.
Please see the image above that helps highlight our school’s goals around attendance for a typical school year.
Parents can easily monitor their child’s attendance statistics via QParents Link to QParents website. An invitation was previously sent to all parent emails to register - please check your inbox and junk mail folders.

CLASSROOM NEWS
6A
We have had a very busy first term and I am very proud of what the students have achieved.
In English we focused on our Letter for the Time Capsule Task which required your child to use subjective language to describe the world around them. I had some very expressive and detailed responses which was great. In some of the responses the students included similes which further enhanced the reader’s perception which was excellent. We conducted reading groups this term and it was great to see the progress that was made by your children and we will continue this next term along with our PLD Spelling Program. A big thank you to Ms B and Mrs Merritt for their support in our classroom this term.
Maths was very interesting as we completed four assessments. The first being a fractions assessment which required your child to place a set of fractions on a series of number lines. I was very impressed with the effort that your children placed into their first assessment and it was great to see so much thought that was going into your children’s answers. The next assessments focused on integers, Cartesian Planes and then we looked at statistics. These assessments required the use of justification which is a skill that will be used in all subjects in high school. We will continue to complete our daily Maths Mentals tasks as it practises the basic mathematical concepts that your child will need next year.
In Science we focused on electricity and how it is created and transformed into different types of energy. This unit was very engaging as students had the opportunity to participate in an incursion day which was very fun and interactive. Students had the opportunity to make a range of circuits on the day which further enhanced their understanding about how circuits are constructed. Students also learnt about the different ways that we can generate electricity for homes.
If families could please action the following Camp Forms as soon as possible:
- Return completed hard copy of the Behaviour Agreement; and
- Complete the consent form, either online through Qparents, or return completed hard copy.
Camp is going to be amazing this year and the students are looking forward to it.
A big thank you to families who consistently returned homework this term. The students who consistently returned homework will be rewarded for their great effort.
I would like to say thank you to all families in 6A for making this term a great one and I am looking forward to having another fantastic term after the school holidays.
Have a lovely break,
Nathan Capps
