Term 2, Week 9
DEPUTY NEWS
I am pleased to announce, that after eighteen months acting in the Upper Deputy position, Simone Hansen has been permanently appointed to the position.
We are so pleased for our students and families that Simone is now here with us for the ‘long haul’ as she has built great relationships with everyone in her time here. Thank you, Simone and congratulations, on the well-deserved permanent position at our school.
We are fortunate to have a strong and passionate leadership team at our school who all want to do what is best for our students every day!
REPORTING
In line with the Queensland Curriculum and Reporting Framework, we have updated our report card approach from Semester 1 this year. Our new policy and guidelines were approved through our P and C association earlier in the year.
Whilst most of the key areas remain the same as previous years, our behaviour and effort ratings now align to the new departmental approach. Please see the tables below that explain the levels we are using.
Years P-6 | |
A | The student always demonstrates positive learning behaviours and models the expectations set out in the Student Code of Conduct. |
B | The student consistently demonstrates positive learning behaviours and regularly meets the expectations set out in the Student Code of Conduct. |
C | The student mostly demonstrates positive learning behaviours and usually meets the expectations set out in the Student Code of Conduct. |
D | The student sometimes demonstrates positive learning behaviours and needs guidance to meet the expectations set out in the Student Code of Conduct. |
E | The student rarely demonstrates positive learning behaviours and requires intensive support to achieve the expectations set out in the Student Code of Conduct. |
N | Insufficient evidence to make a judgement |
Years P-6 | |
A | The student is a model learner, demonstrating personal commitment, persistence and adaptability. |
B | The student consistently demonstrates personal commitment, persistence and adaptability in their learning |
C | The student typically demonstrates commitment, persistence and adaptability in their learning. |
D | The student sometimes demonstrates commitment, persistence and/or adaptability in their learning. |
E | The student requires frequent encouragement to persist and persevere with learning. |
N | Insufficient evidence to make a judgement |
Our academic results continue to be assessed against set criteria, that ensures consistency across the school, region and state. Our school year level teams meet together regularly to ensure there is a consistent approach to marking student work, and our Head of Curriculum also works with other schools, to ensure we are utilising the same standards beyond our school.
Report cards will be emailed home next week.
SCHOOL REVIEW
We know that many of you have been answering surveys, engaging in forums and participating in school events where you have been asked questions. We thank you for your participation and feedback as we are working through our school led review. We are currently compiling our data, and the range of information we have received from staff, students and parents to complete our review report. We will have reviewers at the school later in Term 3 to validate our report which will then give us the necessary information to plan for the next four years. The review team will be keen to talk to parents, staff and students whilst they are here.
From the current information we have received, it is great to see that our current focus areas are making a big difference for our students. We continue to work towards a:
‘MODERN SCHOOL FOR MODERN LEARNERS.’
Our pillars are:
Literacy and Numeracy in Focus
Positive Culture for Learning
21st Century Curriculum
Diversity – We all belong
Digital Futures
How great is our explicit improvement agenda - READING
Please let us know if you are keen to chat to the review team about our great school and our future direction.
UNIFORM CONSISTENCY
With the recent cool weather, we have noticed a number of children wearing jumpers and other clothing and footwear that are not a part of the school uniform. Remember it is a maroon jumper without slogans, and black shoes.
Please also review any jewellery your child is wearing as we have had a spate of accidents and losses over the term.
I have included a copy of the school’s approved dress code for you.
Please take time over the holidays to ensure your child is in full school uniform for the start of Term 3.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL GROUNDS USE
Please note a range of groups hire our grounds before and after school each day. Our Outside School Hours Care team are licenced to use many parts of our grounds including the courts, and all playgrounds. Local teams also hire our ovals for practice and we have groups who run alternate programs several times per week. Please ensure you do not interfere with the rights of these groups to utilise the spaces.
No children, even whilst under parent supervision, should be using our playgrounds before or after school.
Children should not be at school prior to 8:20am as there is no supervision prior to this time. The only reason for a child to be early, is if they have formal sports training or music rehearsals/lessons.
We are finding a higher number of students arriving as early as 7:45 and an increased number of behaviour incidents occurring as a result of children arriving early whilst there is no supervision available. Please help us set your child up for a great day by ensuring they arrive whilst staff are on duty.
COMMUNICATION
We are always keen to communicate with parents and families, and try to use a range of strategies to keep you up to date. We use email, facebook, QParents, texting, our school sign and notes home to assist in letting you know what events are coming up and anything that may involve your students.
We are always happy to find more and better ways to communicate, so if you have any ideas of ‘how’ or ‘what’ you would like to know more about please do not hesitate to reach out.
We are aware that our website is currently ‘clunky’ and are working behind the scenes, with some frustration to update it.
Please remember if you email or phone our staff, we do not expect anyone to respond outside work hours and unless the issue is an urgent one it can take time for staff to respond. It certainly does not mean that we don’t care, so please be patient with us. If you have not had a response within 2 business days, please let us know so that we can pursue a response for you.
ARTS AND SPORTS SHINE
This term has certainly seen our school shine with both our Arts and Sports programs. The school musical was of course a highlight of the term for our Arts team. The hours that staff, students and families put into this spectacular event is beyond measure.
Congratulations to Jenny Aitken, the large team of support staff, the student cast and crew on outstanding performances that left the audience amazed by the talents of our children. I believe well over 200 children were involved!
Whilst this was happening, we also had a number of students representing us in a range of sports, including softball, rugby league, netball, touch football, soccer, and cross country just to name a few. We even hosted some 20 schools at our school for the district cross country. It was certainly a challenging course through the mud for the competitors.
Congratulations to all who represented our school across a range of sports and to those who have gone on to represent our district or region at events. We are so proud of our sporting students, for not only their efforts and skills but also for the sportsmanship they have shown. Many other schools have been in touch to commend our students for their behaviour and attitude.
YEAR 4 RECYCLING RANGERS
This term our Year 4 students have been working on a unit of work, all about recycling and reducing waste. As a part of this program they asked for and organised for ‘10c’ bins to be placed at the school. As a challenge I told the students that if they could raise $100 from these bins this term I would offer a Pizza Party to the year level… well not only did they meet the challenge, they smashed it. It was great to see their enthusiasm and commitment, and yes they loved the pizza party too.
They have elected to keep the bins and the money raised will go to our student council for projects that the children continue to work towards. Student council have provided tables and chairs, and cold water taps for students in recent times.
Congratulations Year 4. We are so proud of your efforts.
With the holidays drawing near, I would like to say thank you for yet another amazing term of hard work and let you know just how much we appreciate the outstanding support we receive from our parents and community. Have a great break with your children and we look forward to seeing everyone back safely on Monday 14 July for Term 3.
Kind regards,
Mon Pfingst

CLASSROOM NEWS
6A
This term has been a very busy term as we have finished all of our assessment.
In English your children submitted their Vlog Assessment. Students have worked very hard to include language features and use high modality language. I am very proud of everything that your children have achieved.
This term students investigated angles and practiced using the order of operations. Maths was interesting as your children had the opportunity to revise decimals and integers. We continue to work on our Maths Mentals booklets which give your children the opportunity to practice key maths skills they will need for high school.
In Science we finished our States of Matter assessment. Students did very well to apply their scientific language and justification to their assessment. A big thank you to everyone who studied at home in preparation for their assessment this term.
I would like to thank Ms B and Mrs Merritt for the incredible effort they put into helping your children. I would also like to thank Mrs Kelly and Ms Green for teaching your children HASS and Health respectively.
Thank you to all families for your support this semester.
Have a lovely holiday,
Nathan Capps

Finally, after 2 postponements, our Colour Explosion happened.
The Chaplaincy Team cannot thank you all enough for your belief and support in our Chaplaincy Program at the school.
This year we were able to raise approximately $10,000 towards having both Emily and Tony continue to provide support to students, families, and staff in times of need. It ended up being a great afternoon of laughter and fun.
